Tyler is working at a great, small law firm here in Texas. However, the firm happens to have a handful of clients in New Mexico. Because Tyler is only licensed in New Mexico right now, he does paralegal work for Texas clients (for the time being) and handles all of the New Mexico clients. The upside to this is he (we!) get to travel to Albuquerque whenever he has to represent a client in court!
Obviously, it's not that fun to drive ten hours for a two-day visit, and Tyler could have flown, but it was cheaper to drive anyway and I needed to get out of our messy, not-settled-in-yet apartment so we all tagged along! The boys were so happy to see their Skousen family again. TJ had a little anxiety that we were moving again, but we explained it was just a visit and he was fine. Eli was just so so happy to see everyone!
We drove up Thursday. On Friday, the boys, Grandma, Haley and I went to Kirtland Air force Base (where my Dad works) to visit him and go bowling.
Grandpa also showed us around to all of the cool decommissioned display planes on base. My kids were thrilled they could actually touch the planes.
In the meantime, Tyler had to drive to Silver City and back. He was all astounded to find actual mountain passes in New Mexico!
On Saturday, TJ got to open some belated birthday gifts from Grandma and Grandpa. Eli got a little gift as well because Grandma didn't want him to feel to sad that TJ got presents and he didn't!
We went to the zoo and it was a beautiful day. Grandma has a pass so we like to go whenever we can. The kids were happy to be in the zoo they know and love best!
We planned to get up super early and drive home Sunday, but we woke up to snow! We took it easy and sent the boys out to play. We probably won't see any other snow this winter so we have to enjoy it when we can!
We got a late start and somehow I managed to come down with a cold halfway home so the drive seemed so long. We had hoped the kids would go to sleep after 5 or 6 but after a short nap, they were both up until we got home at 11:00! It was a brutal drive and a bummer to come home to a messy house, but I'm glad we got away for a quick weekend!
