We had a low-key Halloween this year. It's not my favorite holiday, so in general I don't make much of an effort, but we did keep our family tradition of having the Spooks visit every day for a week before Halloween. Every morning they leave a small surprise somewhere in the house for the boys to find.
One thing I actually do love about Halloween is making a trip to the pumpkin patch, but the week leading up to Halloween was rainy and wet, then we all started getting sick, so I just let it go.TJ was supposed to have a farm field trip with his class the week of Halloween, but they had to cancel it for the rain so he ended up going the first week of November instead.
Since there was no pumpkin picking, we went to a farmers stand that had a fun variety of pumpkins. I made the kiddos sit for a few pictures, and let them pick a pumpkin of their choice. TJ picked a pretty white one, and Eli picked a fun warty pumpkin.
I had purchased the big daddy pumpkin at Sam's club a few weeks prior. So a few nights before Halloween, all the boys had something to carve! Tyler did most of the work, but I did some carving for TJ.
We missed trunk or treat at our church because everyone was sick. The kiddos were devastated, but carving cheered everyone up!
TJ picked a fun dinosaur costume this year, and Eli wanted to be spiderman! Tyler dressed up as a wizard to go around trick or treating with them. I had big visions of making Ash the Pillsbury dough boy, but I was to sick and tired to bother when it came time!
The kids loved trick-or-treating, but they liked handing out candy even more! They thought it was so fun that people were coming to our door every few minutes.
Everyone loaded up on candy, except Ash, who went to bed early instead.
Uneventful though this year was, I loved celebrating in our house. Having trick-or-treater's show up, decorating the door, and having our own neighborhood to trick-or-treat in was so exciting. To me, being in a house is about stability and making long-term memories. We'll celebrate Halloween here for several years, at least. It's such a comforting feeling to know where we will be next year, and the year after that, when Halloween rolls around again.
