Yep, I quilt! It runs in my family. My grandmother and my mother both make beautiful quilts. Not to mention my sisters-in-law, who all sew and quilt like nobodies business.
I mean, check out this Mario quilt they made Tyler!
I haven't tried anything terribly creative, but since I have at last acquired a sewing machine and some inspiration, I've decided to venture out.
I've done three quilts, a T-Shirt quilt, a quilt for my dorm bed (well, I helped with that, anyway), and then the first quilt I ever made, which was a modge-podge of squares about the size of the t-shirt quilt squares.
My inspiration came on one of my road trips to Utah this year. I was carpooling, and one of the boys in the car had a cute quilt. I asked him about it- apparently his grandma had made it for him out of old pants.
Well, I wear my jeans until they die, so I have 2-3 pairs with holes in the knees and crotch (funny story- I wore them like 6 times after the holes appeared before Tyler finally pointed them out. Nice.)
So we had a few pairs of Jeans and Khakis, but I though I might want a little more variety, so I went to DI and bought a pair of pin-stripe black pants and some plaid khakis.
I sketched and cut out a template, and started cutting!
I'm saving the pockets. I think they'll be the cutest part. The squares feel so small! I'm hoping to buy a twin or full-sized flannel sheet (easier & cheaper than buying flannel by the yard) for the backing before I finish cutting. If I need more pants, DI is just around the corner, and a few pairs of used jeans are way cheaper than a few yards of fabric.
| Sorry I look a little crazy. This is all that's left of the first two pairs! |
I've only gotten through two pairs of pants so far, I'm really slow. Unfortunately, I already finished Pride and Prejudice, so I need something new to watch while I cut and sew! Any suggestions?

I have a TON of demin squares if you want some. Like a paper box full of them. Let me knw if you want some or all
Do you just cut denim squares for fun? I just might take you up on that after I see how far my materials go.
My sister Jane was going to make a couple of quilts and then changed her mind and sent them to me. I made one quilt and i don't think I even make a dent in what was in the box.
you are a rock star. i don't even know how to sew on a button.
