fall break 2016 // spokane part 1

Every year, in the fall and spring, the law students get a week off.  It's called "placement break," and the idea behind it is to provide a time for students to schedule traveling interviews.  From what Tyler tells me, only the top 10% ever need this time, so the rest of the bottom 90 (which includes Tyler) use it to party.  It always lines up with balloon fiesta in Albuquerque, and I wanted to take the kids so bad this year, but they saw lots of my family this summer and haven't seen any of their Smith relatives!  So I thought we should go to Spokane instead and Tyler was all over that.

I'm so glad we did, it was seriously the funnest trip.  My in-laws own a big chunk of property and my kids wanted to spent every day outside exploring.  They fed the goats (yep, goats), picked and ate apples, and worked on motorcycles with Dad and Grandpa Joe.

When they were inside, Grandma Ane had lots of toys for them to play with.  The first part of the week we spent doing mandatory vacation things like reading, shopping, and (for me) homework.  Tyler's sister, Christy, was there and I was so glad she came to visit!  One night, we put the kids to bed and went to the Chinese Lantern Festival in downtown Spokane.  It was so fun.
We had a super cute picture of us making normal faces but I never got a copy of it.  Oh well, this one is fun.  Check out that t-rex in the background!  I almost wished we had brought the kids because TJ would have flipped over the dinosaurs  They even had little ones you could ride.

They had some delicious-looking Chinese food.  I just had to try an egg roll, and before I knew it my awesome father-in-law ran over and purchased some for us all to try.  They were so good.  Joe and Tyler by the fish scene - I loved the jellyfish!
My other favorite was the penguins.  I don't really know whats happening with my eyes in this picture.
They had a short show that included martial arts, plate spinning (not the kind on a stick, literally dishes being spun in big circles), yo-yo-ing, and a contortionist.  It was a super fun night out.
