This adventure was several weeks ago, but I still wanted to write about it so that someday I can show the kids how I used to be a fun mom.
One thing I wanted to do pretty much every year in Utah is go pick berries. Any kind of berries. But I was never cognizant enough to know it was berry-picking season, so we never did it.
Fast forward to 2018 here in Texas. I was looking at our rec-center catalog (we have a killer parks and rec program here) and one of the summer activities was a field trip to a blueberry farm. I thought that looked like fun, but going on a bus with a bunch of strangers did not sound fun.
So instead, I presented the idea to a group of friends and the went my own self. I had one friend come with me, which was really great because it was a suuuuuper long drive out there and I was so glad I had someone in the car to chat with!Like I said, it was a long drive out. When we first pulled up, it was cloudy and nice. We had lunch, and by the time we headed out to pick the sun was out and it was crazy hot.
We didn't stay out very long, but between me and the two boys we got a pretty good load of berries! They did a great job and were very enthusiastic pickers.
We went in the store and purchased our lot of blueberries + some very stale blueberry donuts + a pound of blackberries + a few delish fresh peaches + a Texas-shaped sugar cookie (cuz it's Texas, y'all!) and then took a very long ride home.
TJ loved the blueberries and ate them by the fistful! Eli loved the blackberries and was constantly sneaking them out of the fridge.
We made blueberry muffins right away, because I was worried the blueberries wouldn't last! They came out so good.
We finished off the blueberries over the last few weeks. My favorite way to have them was in smoothies. They add such a yummy tart flavor!
Next year, I want to plan a longer day trip and spend some time checking out the cute little shops in the nearby town.
