texas wildflowers

In the spring here, everyone loves to get pictures with the famous texas bluebonnets.  We were much too late for bluebonnet season, but I saw some friends' photos at a local park that was filled with wildflowers that I thought were bluebonnets!

We headed out one Sunday afternoon to see the flowers and go for a walk. As it turns out, they are not actual texas bluebonnets, but the flowers sure were beautiful.   I got some great pictures of the boys!

Of course, most of them look like this.  It was just to fun to sit still for the camera.

We went exploring.  Lots of the parks here have paved walking trails or gravel paths.  We found a little dirt path down to the creek and let the kids wade in.
I found out later there is a small artificial waterfall somewhere in this park.  We didn't find it, but I want to go back some time and track it down!
There is an elementary school through the park and across the street, so we let the kids play on the playground for 20 minutes or so before we started making our way back to the car.

We followed a gravel trail to a place with some low stone walls called Discovery Point.  I don't know what was discovered at this point, but I do know that photography is limited to one person at a time (according to the sign), so I was feeling lucky that we were the only ones there - I could snap photos to my hearts content!

We crossed the creek again and found a funny little rope swing.  The boys were eager to give it a try!
Too bad you can't see TJ's smile - he was having a blast!

We stopped back at the flower field so I could pick a small handful to take home with me.

Can you find the butterfly in this picture?
It was so nice to be out of the house.  We've been trying to take more Sunday walks to avoid watching movies all afternoon!  Hopefully we can keep it up - the weather has been terrible (over 100* already!) so we'll have to toughen up and remember to pack water bottles next time.
