riding the train

DART - Dallas Rapid Transport - is the public transportation system here.  They consider the buses and trains all part of one system.  The trains run pretty often so we see them frequently, and TJ is always so excited about it, so we figured a train ride was in order.
We rode the TRAX system in Utah  last year so this isn't TJ's first train ride, but he still loved it.   The whole time we waited at the station he was going crazy, saying "Trains coming!" on repeat.

We rode for about ten minutes, then got off and waited for the next train then rode home.
The train cars were filthy.  TRAX was clean (for public transportation), so I was surprised to see the DART trains covered in trash.  It also smelled like too many people.  Probably because we live in Dallas and that means that everyone is sweating all the time.
TJ asks every day to go ride the trains again.  Now when we cross the train tracks he talks to me about the train station and riding the train.
I'm trying hard to go out and do fun things with the kiddos while we are here.  Part of me thinks it's a waste of effort, since they probably won't remember most of it.  But things like this, that TJ remembers and talks about for weeks?  They make it worth it.  He might not remember it in a year, but he remembers it right now and I love it.

That brings back so many memories. Dave used to get home from work, eat dinner, then take Isaac and Noah on the train up to Ogden (the end of the line) where they had old engines you could climb and play on. Some days he'd take them to salt lake, we had a membership to the discovery gateway museum. We also spent so much time driving over the tracks right by our house waiting for the "ding dings" to go down so they could hear the bells and see the lights when a train was coming. They loved it so much. I don't know if they remember it but it made them so happy, and I sure remember it! Seems like a fun day for TJ at least!

I think the feelings they have at a young age forms their character and subconcious view of the world even if they cant remember the actual events. So the joy will stick with him.

It's insane seeing there memories really work. Helena mentions things from weeks ago and I'm always in shock.
