34 weeks

Baby is carrying much lower this week.
I am grouchy ALOT, either because I'm in a hormonally-induced bad mood, or because I'm having heartburn, or because I'm tired, or because the kid is stretching my skin and bending my ribs, or because my clothes are trying to suffocate me.  Sometimes it feels like all my clothes are trying to suffocate me and I can't get comfortable until I'm wearing nothing but a blanket.
Zap wanted to be in the picture

I went to a breastfeeding class this week, because it never hurts to have more information, right?  There were three other girls there about as far along as I am, and I realized I am carrying very small.  People tell me I look small for how far along I am, but I didn't really realize it was true.  Which is weird.  I thought I would be hugest pregnant woman.  The baby is normal-sized, I just carry...small.  Apparently.

Also, breastfeeding.  If you've nursed a baby, can you please weigh in on the following?
Nurse teaching class: "It never hurts if you're doing it right"
Other baby books: "It just hurts for a few days while your nipples toughen up"
Everyone else: "It just hurts"
What do you think?  Did it take some time for nursing to not hurt?
Thanks!
-Mrs. Smith

It will hurt. Bad. For a few days. With Noah I screamed every time he latched for two months. There was something wrong there. But with Isaac and Zoe it was one or two weeks and then I was fine. But they're lying if they say it will never hurt. It will.

i'm so happy you are asking these questions! ...because i need to know the answers too!

i know a lot of mom's that had difficulty breastfeeding. i truly hope my try won't be so difficult. it's kinda hard imaging your nipples hurting?!

i had my first case of heartburn last night. it totally shocked me! ...hello 2nd trimester!

did you find the breastfeeding class worthwhile?

I posted on your Facebook page, but I'll post a little more detail here. It will hurt for the first couple of weeks, but for me, it only hurt when they first latched on for like a minute, then it was fine. I used Lansinoh after every shower and after every time that I nursed, put a thickish coat on your nipples. Lansinoh nursing pads are the best, I always leaked through the cheap ones like Gerber. Cloth ones are good too but I preferred those later on when I wasn't so engorged and prone to leak. Lactation consultants are miracle workers, use them. I also highly recommend the book Babywise or The Baby Whisperer, putting your baby on a schedule will make life a billion times easier. You can call me anytime and if you ever need to complain about pregnancy or breastfeeding, I will sympathize.

I just finished the baby whisperer, and I definitely liked what she had to say.
I got some of those exact nursing pads from my wonderful aunts at my shower, and I bought some of the cream as well.

April - I guess it depends. There was some useful information, like how milk is produced, what the hospital's policy is on post labor nursing, and she showed short videos of good and bad latches, which was really helpful. There was also alot of stuff I'd already read online and in books. The BEST thing was being able to ask a nurse questions.

It was a free class, so it was worth the time commitment to me. I would not have paid for a breastfeeding class because
1. I can get the lactation consultants help in the hospital
2. My mom is coming to help, and she nursed 4 babies, so I know she can help me if I need it.

Oh April. You're lucky you can't imagine it. It's the worst WORST thing. Especially with Noah, cracked and bleeding, he was spitting up blood from ME. It was so gross. And painful.
