summer break 2017: spokane part 1

Our big summer trip was flying up to Spokane to see Tyler's family.  The trip divides itself nicely into three parts - pre-cabin, cabin, and post-cabin!  So here is everything during the first (pre-cabin) chunk.

The kids were great on the flight - we flew up on a Thursday.  Eli was fussy but he slept through the entire connecting flight out of Salt Lake!

After we got there, the kids had a nap then spent the afternoon swimming.

The next day (Friday) was fairly laid back.  We spent the evening out in Coeur d'alene, just over the Idaho border.  I love Coeur d'alene, and we had pizza at the beach.  We had so much fun swimming in the lake!  Both my kids thought it was great fun swimming without their floaties.  Eli wanted to keep going out and would have drowned himself if he had his way.

Afterward, we went to the Coeur d'alene resort for gooeys ice cream - a fun treat of giant proportions!  The last time I had one was Christmastime before Tyler and I were married and I was so excited to go again and share it with the kiddos. TJ picked the cookie monster sundae and his face when he saw it was priceless.  I wish I had a better picture!

TJ loved the fish in the lobby.  It was really cool to see Koi in a tank instead of a pond.
Eli had a mild cold before we left on the trip, and he is prone to croup.  Unfortunately, the smoggy air really bothered his lungs and he was having enough trouble breathing Friday night that I took him to the ER on Saturday.  They gave him a nebulizer treatment and medication (thankfully, my brother-in-law lent us a nebulizer so we didn't have to buy one!).  I was so grateful that he could be treated so easily and he recovered fairly quickly over the next few days.

This is his sick face.
Clearly it wasn't all pain and suffering though!  We made a ramp out of the bed and he thought that was a blast.
We also visited Tyler's mom's grave, and it was a really special experience to talk about Grandma Cindy with our kids.
Another fun thing about Grandpa Joe's house are all the toys.  Even the lawn mower was a great source of entertainment.

Saturday night was Tyler's 10-year high school reunion.  The venue was actually really cool, and Tyler won a knife in one of the raffles, so we'll  call that a win!

The next day, Sunday, we drove up to the cabin and that is part 2!
