| Bringing Eli home |
| TJ was delighted when we brought Eli home for the first time! |
I am amazed at everyone who has more than this. Now that the worst of the postpartum hormones are behind me, I can admit that we will probably have more children someday. Last week I was pretty avidly telling Tyler never again. But the other day, the phrase "next time I'm pregnant" slipped out so I guess I've accepted the fact that someday I will once again be baby-hungry enough to do this again.
Even though it's super duper hard, I really am loving it. Eli is starting to get more schedule-ized, and seems to be figuring out this napping thing, which has made things way more manageable.
When TJ finds one of Eli's binks, he takes it to Eli right away. If Eli is within his reach, he also proceeds to insert it into Eli's mouth.
TJ strokes Eli's hair. He loves his nose and is fascinated by Eli's toes, and whenever Eli's hands are unwrapped he gives Eli high-fives. He also tries to poke Eli in the eyes alot.
The only time TJ seems to resent Eli is when I'm nursing, because I'm stuck sitting down and can't do anything for TJ at all.
Eli weighed 8 pounds and 1 ounce at his two-week checkup. He's such a mellow baby. He doesn't really love bath time yet, so that's the only time of day he really loses it and screams and screams. Poor TJ gets very upset about it.
He's had a few days where he's fussy and can't sleep, so the doctor diagnosed him with colic. Which is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'm pretty sure he's just gassy because I'm not a great burper. But one or two days of fussiness does not a colicky baby make.
Today I took both boys out of the house for a doctor appointment by myself! I know it's stupid, but it was a big boost to my self-confidence to start of my first week alone with a successful outing. It means maybe I can manage a toddler and a baby. Maybe we will be able to do fun things. Maybe TJ won't have to be confined to the house. I worried about that alot, because TJ literally did not leave the house until he was 3 months old except for doctors appointments and his baby blessing. I just couldn't handle it. One of my goals for this baby was to learn to go places and be more relaxed.
Anyway, I'm loving this. The happy moments really do outshine the hard times when both of the boys are crying at the top of their lungs. Sometimes I can get TJ to cuddle with me on the couch while I nurse Eli and, when that happens, everything is perfect. I have my two boys in my arms and it is all worth it.

Oh girl, feeling awesome about getting both kids out of the house is NOT STUPID at all! It's a major victory in my book. I think you're extra awesome because TJ is still pretty young! I think the only way I can do it is that Joshua is older and very independent–he can put his own shoes on, carry his own junk in his little backpack, and I basically just have to worry about Little Miss. So good on ya!! Congrats on being a momma of two!! :)
wow!!! i love seeing you leave the hospital with your baby!!!
i love this, just love it. and just increases my baby fever!!!
i too, think it is weird how quick doctors are to prescibe a baby with "colic". one piece of advice i will share, that i'm technically passing down from Helena's Great-Grandma, was to keep socks on a newborn/baby. She said it helped reduce the colic/fussiness. so we always kept socks (and still keep socks on her) on Helena. Who knows if helped or not, but thought I would share.
Good for you for taking your boys out!
and picturing you with both boys in your lap...well that's just amazing!
i'm super excited to see these little boys become friends!
Thank you Jana! Seriously, I see all your Instagram pics and I'm like, "how on earth does she get out so much?!" Sometimes I forget how little TJ still is.
April, I usually keep socks on but his feet are so small they fall off all the time! It is so weird to have a normal-sized baby after TJ. Hopefully his feet start to grow pretty soon here.
Oh he is too sweet! I love that going home picture and the last one of him asleep. And the one with TJ. And the one with Tyler. Basically I love all of those pictures. :) I'm so glad it's going well for you! It really is hard with two so close together but it sounds like it's all going to be just fine! I know there are hectic moments but gosh those are two sweet babies you have there.
