Our little puppy duppy passed away. We believe he had a stroke, followed by around 48 hours of seizures before he finally stopped breathing.
Zap was my first dog. He was born in 2003, in a litter of two puppies. His mom was my aunt Anne's dog, and we just adored her little puppies. After visiting one night, she 'snuck' the dog out under my jacket. We convinced my parents (who had a strict no-pet policy) that we would just "try it out" for a few weeks. Obviously, he never went back.
He had lots of adventures in our house. Once, I was running to answer the phone, and he was running right behind me. I knocked the ironing board and the iron fell and broke his foot. It was a weekend and no vets were open, so I held him all night and carried him and hand fed and watered him until we could get him seen. I felt so terrible, but the little dog cast was hi-larious!
Zap was our first pet. Over the years, Zap was joined by three cats, a turtle, and a number of hamsters and snakes who came and went. Around 2008 his litter mate, Pheobe, came to live with us too.
Shortly after Tyler and I were married, we brought Zap to live with us. He was part of our little family. He was around when we brought both TJ and Eli home. We went on some great adventures.
Since we were at the Larson Family Reunion, Zap was being watched by our dear friends. They went through every dog sitters nightmare, but they loved our puppy and were there for him when we couldn't be. We couldn't have asked for better people to see him out of this life. I'll always be sad I didn't get to say goodbye to my puppy. Zap was my first (and only, really) dog. I love him and miss him lots.
Another post about zap here.

That is just heartbreaking. I'm SO sorry for your lose, and to have it happen while you were away.
Prayers to you and Zap!
I just wanted to cry that morning when Tyler was on the phone with your puppy sitters finding out he had passed away. I felt so bad for you guys. I never knew that Anne had snuck him into your family! How funny! Has TJ noticed that he's missing?
Kindof... like, at first, he would throw food on the ground and wait for zap to come eat it. But now he doesn't wait anymore, he just throws more food. Nice. And he gets way more excited about seeing dogs than he used to. Sometimes when he hears a dog he asks about it, and I wonder if he's asking about our dog.
