2013

Another fabulous year, and the first year spent entirely with my sweet Tyler man.  Man, it was fun!  I am going to miss it just being the two of us.  It was a short time, but we were both ready to grow the family.

  • Bringing our raggedy puppy up to Rexburg
  • Mastering a few family recipes, including home-made bread, Sunday roast, and Grandma's rolls
  • Ice fishing, because now I can say that I've tried it!
  • Celebrating our 1st anniversary in Jackson Hole.  I'm so glad we went ahead and splurged for a fun trip, because it's going to be harder to celebrate with kiddos.  It will definitely be a few years before we can take a weekend trip again.
  • Deciding to have a baby and finding out we were pregnant!
  • Changing/finalizing education plans for both of us - law school was a big, scary decision!  (Tyler's going, not me)
  • Going through the Temple with my little brother (and telling my family about baby Smith that same trip!)
  • Sending Logan on his mission to Montana
  • Our super fun summer trip up the north-west coast
  • Countless little blessings
  • Flying down to New Mexico for a really fun baby shower
  • Our first Christmas by ourselves
It looks like little boy is going to be a 2014 baby, so that is something we are looking forward to for the new year!  Tyler will be graduating in July, and we'll be moving somewhere after that.  Hopefully it will be to start graduate school, or if not, a full-time job until Tyler starts grad school in 2015.  I'll be graduating with my associates and continuing my bachelors on-line through BYU-Idaho.

Here's how I did on last year's goals:
  1. Do my visiting teaching every month - ummmmm how about 7 out of 12?
  2. Budget more faithfully - we never got on the ball with this, but in November we sat down and started working on our budget for 2014.  Nothing encourages budgeting more than another mouth to feed. :)
  3. Go to the temple every other week - for the most part we did really good.  There were a few months I missed because I was so sick.
  4. Get up and go to the gym whenever Tyler does - check!  We were super awesome at working out from January to April, then we took a fitness class together from April to July.  However, Tyler was super awesome about working out during his health challenge at work and I didn't go with him because I was sick most of that time.
  5. Cook Sunday dinner - check!
And here are my goals for 2014:
  1. Making my marriage a priority - this hasn't been an issue, since it's just been Tyler and I.  I'm the kind of person who will push my marriage off of my priority list and take it for granted when things get hectic.  Tyler is naturally thoughtful and attentive, I am not.  If I don't make an effort to keep our marriage on the list, I'm afraid I will neglect it and forget to be a wife before being the mom.  Tyler is naturally thoughtful and attentive, I am not.
  2. Strengthen our pattern of Family Home Evening - we worked really hard this year to establish FHE in our home, but we still missed at least once every month.
  3. Learn to be more thrifty - this goes right along with budgeting.  Some of the things I'm planning on trying include home-made laundry detergent, home-made snacks (fruit roll-ups, baked goods, ect.), and couponing (spelling?).
What is your big goal for 2014?

I want to pay off our car and use the car payment money in savings instead so we can eventually have a down payment for a house. Congratulations on your goals, good for you!

Ooo paying off the car will be so nice. You're not planning on buying a house in gallup are you?
